Clays Mill Elementary is located on the southern end of Lexington, making it a suburban school. It sits on a 15-acre lot adjacent to Southland Park. Clays Mill was built in 1954 and has undergone multiple renovations over its lifetime. The most recent of renovations was finished in the fall of 2012.
Clays Mill Elementary provides educational services to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Clays Mill meets the needs of our students through a variety of teaching techniques and strategies. Our goal is to get students actively involved in their learning through multiple varieties of experiences. We provide English language support services to our students and families with limited English proficiency. CME also provides special education services and support for students with disabilities. We offer special area instruction to all students in the areas of art, music, physical education, technology and library. At Clays Mill, our PTA is very involved and supports our learning environment through countless volunteer hours. The PTA hosts many different fundraising opportunities to give back to our school as well.
CME employs state certified educators for classroom instruction. In addition to the certified teaching staff there are many instructional assistants and paraprofessionals employed to help meet the needs of our students. Clays Mill has the Beaumont Branch of the Lexington Public library within a 5 minute drive as well as the University of Kentucky academic library within a 10 minute drive.
